If you are a Virginia Beach resident, having a chemical peel performed at our med spa can make a tremendous difference in the health and appearance of your skin. Whether you are dealing with wrinkles, sunspots, hyperpigmentation, or stretch marks, chemical peels can often completely transform your skin without the need for surgery.
A chemical peel is a medical-grade solution containing some type of chemical that is applied to your skin for a certain period of time to correct certain skin imperfections. A peel is defined by its ingredients, strength of concentration, and depth of penetration. There are three main types of peels: light, medium, and deep. The type that works best for you can be determined at your initial consultation.
Glycolic Acid Peels
Gentle acids like glycolic, alpha hydroxy, and lactic acids are common ingredients in light peels. They are for the correction of dull complexions, enlarged pores, and superficial acne scars. They do not require any sedation or downtime. The only drawback to this type of peel is that its mild nature may mean that multiple treatments are required.
Medium peels normally contain a chemical called TCA that is used for a reduction of light lines and wrinkles, minor scars, and hyperpigmentation. This type of peel may sometimes require some sedation and minimal downtime.
Peels containing phenol or carbolic acid are required in serious cases like deep scars, stretch marks, and deep lines and wrinkles. This type of peel involves the peeling away of the epidermis skin layer and some of the lower dermis layer. Be prepared to set aside quite a bit of time for healing after this powerful form of skin rejuvenation. Deep peels require significant downtime.
What to Expect
A treatment with chemical peels is performed at our med spa in Virginia Beach. Prior to your treatment, we will completely cleanse your face and may cover your eyes with protective eye wear. Your hair may also require protection.
After your treatment with chemical peels, avoid picking at or scratching your skin. Allow dead skin cells to slough off naturally. Your body knows what to do and how to respond to the treatment. Let it do its job.
You will also want to avoid any activities that could excessively dry your skin since dry skin is more vulnerable to unnecessary injury. Similarly, avoid prolonged physical activity that could lead to dehydration.
